  • When Colette Lopez founded La Fete Weddings, it seemed the natural evolution of the things she truly loved: design, entertaining and love. Years later, her daughter has joined her and their chemistry sings of a match made in heaven. The mother-daughter team laugh together, shop together, work together and seem so closely connected that they finish each other's sentences- jumping in excitedly when talk turns to design and inspiration. It is, after all, their specialty.

    Their blog is to inspire and show you what they have created for their clients, and also what they can do for you. La Fete believes that each wedding should be as unique as the people getting married. They desire to create events that reflect each couples personalities and taste. Kids Helping Kids

For the past eight years Kids Helping Kids has put on an annual benefit concert featuring recording artists such as Sara Bareilles, Switchfoot, Andy Grammer, and Ingrid Michaelson. Kids Helping Kids is an entirely student-run, nonprofit organization run by the Advanced Placement Economics students at San Marcos High School in Santa Barbara, California. These students share one common passion – to improve the lives of disadvantaged kids both locally and globally. This year at the signature gala event on January 8th & 9th at the Granada Theatre will feature headlining artist & Grammy-nominated band NEEDTOBREATHE, with support from husband-and-wife duo JOHNNYSWIM.

7 Must Know Dress Shopping Tips for The Mother of the Bride

This week we teamed up with Martha Stewart Weddings & Christy Baird of LOHO Bridal Salon to share some dress shopping tips for the Mother of the Bride! To see the full article CLICK HERE!

#1 Consult the bride

Ask your daughter what vision she has for her wedding so you can shop accordingly—is she going for a boho feel or a black-tie dress code? Christy Baird, founder and creative director of San Francisco bridal salon, LOHO Bride says, “Check out your daughter’s Pinterest board in advance and shop with her vision in mind.” Picking out your MOB-dress is a wedding activity you and your daughter is a fun way to bond, too. Colette Lopez, owner of Santa Barbara wedding event company, La Fete Weddings, says, “Make her a part of your shopping experience. Invite her to come along with you, or send her pictures if you’re long distance.”

#2 Set a budget

“There are so many beautiful options out there across every price range, budget should not be a stressful part of your thought process,” Baird says. Also, take into consideration the mother of the groom’s budget. “It is important to be sensitive to not overspend on your gown, especially if the groom’s side cannot afford an elaborate or expensive dress,” Lopez says.

#3 Choose a dress early on

Traditionally, the mother of the bride picks her dress before the mother of the groom. Once you buy your dress, kindly let the MOG know—or ask the bride to tell the groom to tell his mom … It doesn’t matter how the message gets to the MOG, it just needs to get there so she can start shopping for something that’s just as special as your look.

#4 Keep the color palette in mind

If the wedding colors are pink and ivory, you should probably rule out a royal blue dress. “It is important that the photos and the overall style and color blends nicely with the bridesmaids and other members of the wedding party,” Lopez says. Just as you wouldn’t wear white to upstage the bride, straying from the bride and groom’s color palette is also an etiquette don’t.

#5 Consider the location

The mother-of-the-bride dress should complement the venue’s vibe. “Whether the wedding is in a garden at a private estate, in a ballroom at a resort, or even barefoot on the beach—this will dictate the style that the mother of the bride should wear,” Lopez says. Your dress for a 5 p.m. ceremony at a church would call for a more formal dress than a 2 p.m. ceremony at a vineyard.

#6 Don’t forget about undergarments

What goes underneath your dress is just as important as the gown itself! “They can smooth your body out, be used as a slip, and most importantly, they’ll make you feel confident as you take photos that you’ll be looking back on for the rest of your life,” Baird explains.

#7 Make sure you’re comfortable

Comfort is key. “Continue to search until you find the right dress that you can stand in, sit in, and dance in,” Lopez says. No matter how gorgeous a dress is, the last thing you want to be doing on your daughter’s big day is fidgeting with your dress.

Paperless Post Designs We Love

By now I am sure that most of you are familiar with Paperless Post and have received some form of online invitation from their site before. But, did you know that they offer a huge selection of their designs in paper now?  Not only is their wide selection of wedding invitations both beautiful & sophisticated, they have also partnered with brilliant designers such as Oscar De La Renta, Vera Wang, Kate Spade, Rifle Paper Co. and so many more! So, we were absolutely delighted when Paperless Post reached out to us to share some of our personal favorite wedding invitations that they offer in both online and in print form.

When we begin planning a wedding with our clients we always mention that the Save-the-Dates and the invitations are your guests FIRST impression of the wedding day. This is the beginning of your brand and your paper products should convey the overall feeling & theme of your wedding celebration. Therefore, we thought it would be fun to match up some of our favorite Paperless Post invitation suites with some of our “Real Wedding” designs from the past few years to give a little bit of life to each of these invitation suites and show how you can carry your theme from start to finish!!

We wanted to start with Paperless Post’s “Tulum Invitation” in the colors: Ivory with Apricot! The way that the ‘papel picado’ flags delicately fly over the top of the main invitation page & is then carried through to the response card reminded us of our Spanish Colonial wedding we designed in the Summer of 2013. We created a giant “U” shaped tent structure which was fabric draped in a deep ivory/maize colored silk. Then we strung bulb lighting and personalized ‘papel picado’ flags over the dance floor. The contrast of beautiful bright pops of color within the centerpieces added the perfect Spanish flair to the evening.

Coming up next we have the “Silk Brocade II” Invitation in Gold Foil designed by Oscar De La Renta. When I first saw this pattern it instantly reminded me of our bride Katharine’s wedding dress from this past August 2015. She wore the “Alchemy” gown from Clair Pettibone and the gold lace over soft ivory silk looked drop dead gorgeous on her!

Often times we will wait until our bride choses her wedding gown to get started on the design of her wedding. There is so much inspiration that can be pulled from the bride’s personal  style and this is the perfect example of how you can introduce a theme with your save the date or invitation and then watch it come to life on your wedding day when you arrive in a stunning gold lace gown. Here are a few images below of Katharine & PJ’s  gorgeous Taupe, White, and Gold wedding reception that was held at the Montecito Country Club.

We are particularly fond of the next invitation design because we were actually able to use it this year! The “Plume” Invitation in Ivory with Gold Foil was chosen by our bride Katie this year. She customized her invitations and then incorporated the same “Plume” design into her wedding menus & place cards! The end result was absolutely stunning!

And last but certainly not least, we are wrapping up with the “Ikebana Invitations” in Red. We just loved the hand-painted/watercolor effect of this suite along with the mix of fonts! This design reminded me of a wedding we did at the Santa Barbara Polo Fields this past June 2015. We built a large tent over the reception and then draped the interior with lush lemon leaf garlands and large bulb string lighting. The tables were all dressed in a variety of ivory patterned table linens and then topped with rich colorful flowers that really packed a punch!

The Savvy Planner Workshop

This week we wanted to spotlight the incredible people who donated their time and energy into helping us with The Savvy Planner Workshop which we held on October 12th! The morning started at Town & Country Even Rentals in Santa Barbara with coffee and some fresh pastries from our local favorite Jeannine’s Bakery! We had a nice time meeting and getting to know our attendees before we sat down to begin the first part of our speaking session in this cozy lounge furniture grouping we set up with Town and Country!

We wanted our attendees to go home with something a little different than the typical gift bag! So we shopped for some sweet gifts and assembled them on these small wooden trays along with these insanely gorgeous name tags which were laser printed by De Lovely Details! (If you haven’t heard about this company you HAVE to check them out!!)

Then we moved to a new area within the T&C  showroom to have a delicious two course catered lunch by Omni Catering! We designed this lunch setting with Town & Country, La Tavola Linens and Louloudi Floral Designs to feel like we were outside on a sunny fall afternoon!

First we served a Grilled Panzanella Salad with heirloom tomatoes, grilled Italian bread, feta cheese, kalamata olives, cucumber, and marinated red onions with fresh basil and a balsamic vinaigrette! It was spectacular!!

The second course from Omni Catering was a Fresh Basil Pesto Glazed Wild Salmon served over warm quinoa and fresh vegetables!

After lunch we moved over to the next stop to have a fantastic cake tasting and Champagne with Lele Patisserie. Lele so graciously brought in some of her artificial cakes for us to display as well as what felt like a million different cake & frosting flavors for all of us to mix and match to our hearts desire!! (This may have been my favorite part!)

Once our stomachs were completely satisfied, we moved over to our table design session. Louloudi Designs created a stunning fall centerpiece for our table with bright fuchsia, deep purple, and creamy mocha colored flowers as the focal point! On one side of the table we used dark black accents and mixed china to create a look that was contemporary and modern.

And on the opposite side of the table we used soft gold and champagne tones to create a romantic candlelit dinner with cut crystal glassware! Louloudi Designs even painted both sides of the flower container to mix up the designs! During this time we taught each of the ladies some of our favorite napkin folds, how we go about our design process with our clients, and allowed them to design their own place settings by using all of the products at T&C!

We ended the evening with wine and cheese (two of our favorite things!) and took the time to chat with each of our attendees to get to know them personally & discuss what unanswered questions they might still have! Overall it was a hugely successful day, and we really valued our time spent with each one of the incredible ladies who attended!
